Gavin and I where on our way to his music class when the song Apologize by One Republic came on. Every time the word apologize was sung I’d hear “sorry” from Gavin. I went on for the entire length of the song.

Today Caroline and I made gingerbread men or should I say gingerbread cyclopes and sad gingerbread men “they are sad because they know they are going to be eaten”.

Caroline says “mom you know food floats in space” so I tell her yes everything floats. Caroline say “except jumping beans they pretty much do the same thing on earth, jump around (using jumping hand motions)”.

I was doing prep work for dinner (tilapia) Caroline comes in and asks. What’s that? I said fish. She starts in “mom you killed the fish and you’re going to cook them.” So I told her I didn’t kill them. She asks “did daddy”, I say no fishermen do, that’s there job to catch fish for people to eat. “Mommy they are killing nature, why would you kill nature”. I tell her that is part of life, we need to eat fish for nourishment. It’s part of the food chain.

She is a minnie activist. We have to be careful with what we say about chickens…… since that is pretty much the only meat she eats with out a fight.

The other day, Gavin did something that bothered Caroline so she said ” God, Gavin”. I told Caroline I don’t like her saying that. She then asks “why, we say it in God bless America”. She’s got a point.

The other day, I just finished brushing Caroline’s hair (which is always an ordeal) when not even two minutes later her hair was a complete mess again. I asked her if she liked me having to do her hair all over again, when she said “don’t worry mom, all the kids I know also look like raga- muffins”.

Rob had a football game on yesterday. Caroline asked who was playing and Rob told her “the Giants and the Steelers”. Caroline’s then asked “are the Giants really big?”.

Caroline has a cold and we’ve been giving her honey at night to sooth the throat. Last night after a coughing fit she called Rob upstairs and said “Daddy, I’ve been coughing a lot, can you hand over the honey?”.

We recently went to a birthday party and Elmo came to the party. Caroline after the party tells us, “I saw some skin on Elmo, skin like my color”. So I tell her maybe Elmo shaved, and that ended the conversation for a while. Later in the day she says “you know what maybe it was just someone pretending to be Elmo”.

I recently had to spend a few nights away from Caroline and Gavin. So at dinner the night before I was leaving, I ask Caroline “is it ok if it’s just daddy looking after you and Gavin for a few days”, she responds “of course what would I do with out a grown up”. We then ask her what she would do and she said “I don’t know watch TV and eat snacks”.

Caroline recently seems to be noticing that things are not exactly equal among the sexes. A few examples,

She and I had a discussion about the upcoming elections. I told her that George Bush will no longer be president (which she always says every time we talk about it. “but why, I like him”). Anyway I tell her that either Barack Obama or John McCain will be president. She says “is there a girl choice”?

We had to go to the Rec center and we passed the flag football team practicing. Caroline asked why are there no girls?

Rob took Caroline to a Mets game she asked “are there girl mets”.

I hope she continues to ask these questions, and maybe she’ll do something about it. I think President Caroline sounds good.
